Urinalysis & Urinary Infection Treatment

Urinary tract infections are diagnosed with a urine test done at the clinic itself and, if there is an infection, you leave with your treatment the same day. Walk-in and in Spanish.

What are the symptoms?

• Burning or pain when urinating
• Frequent urge to urinate, even when little comes out
• Cloudy urine, with a bad smell or with blood
• Discomfort or pressure in the lower abdomen
• In older adults, sometimes the only sign is confusion or low energy

How is it diagnosed?

With a urine sample analyzed at the clinic: it looks for blood, nitrites, leukocytes and protein. If the problem recurs or does not respond to treatment, a culture is sent to the lab to identify the bacteria and find which antibiotic works.

When is it an emergency?

A bladder infection is uncomfortable, but it resolves. What cannot wait is an infection that reaches the kidney. Go to the emergency room if you have:

• Fever with chills
• Pain in the flank or lower back
• Nausea or vomiting
• Heavy blood in the urine

How to prevent them

According to the NIDDK, what helps most is drinking enough water, not holding in urine, urinating after sex and wiping front to back. In women with repeated infections it is worth reviewing other factors in a gynecology visit too.

How to prepare for the urine test

• If you can, do not urinate in the hour before your visit
• The sample is collected mid-stream, after cleaning the area
• Say if you are taking an antibiotic: it changes the result
• If you are on your period, mention it, because blood can confuse the reading

Walk-in and no insurance

Monday through Sunday, 9 AM to 9 PM. The urine test is done at the clinic and the medical team explains the result and the plan. If episodes repeat several times a year, it is worth investigating the cause rather than treating each episode separately.
